Overflow Naturals

Our Story

Anointed for Overflow.

“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”

Psalm 23:5 (KJV)

There's something beautiful about knowing that God has prepared a place for you.

Even in the midst of life's demands, challenges, and uncertainties, His provision remains. His care is intentional, His love is abundant, and His goodness is not reserved for some distant moment when everything in life is finally perfect.

This verse is the heart behind Overflow Naturals. But the story of how it all began goes back much further than the name.

And I'd love to share it with you.

Learning to Love How God Made Me

Growing up, I didn't always appreciate my natural hair.

Like many young girls, I wanted to fit in. I looked around at the girls who seemed to embody what was beautiful and popular, and somewhere along the way, I began to believe that I needed to look more like them.

My hair was permed when I was younger, and as I grew older, I continued straightening it. I didn't really know how to care for my natural hair, and for a while, I wasn't particularly interested in learning.

But something began to change during my sophomore year of high school.

God had surrounded me with people and environments where I was loved, cared for, and seen. It was during that time that I began to question what I was trying so hard to achieve by fitting in.

I remember asking myself a simple question:

“Who am I trying to impress anyway?”

I began to realize that if someone was going to love me, I wanted them to know and love the real me—not a version of myself I had created to fit someone else's expectations.

I didn't want to spend my life trying to become what I thought other people wanted me to be.

I wanted to embrace who God had made me, including the hair He had given me.

So I began to care for and wear my natural hair.

I still remember the first day I wore it naturally. After years of straightening, my hair was so stringy! My roots were curly, but my ends were still straight.

For quite some time, I wore my hair just like that because I didn't want to cut it and lose the length I had grown so attached to.

I spent weeks watching natural hair YouTubers online, learning how they cared for their hair and hearing about something called the big chop.

Eventually, I decided to do it myself.

I cut off those straight ends, and suddenly, my hair was much shorter than I had wanted it to be.

But to my surprise, I loved it more than I ever imagined I would.

And that decision marked the beginning of a beautiful journey.

A Love for Creating

As I began caring for my natural hair, I discovered that finding products I genuinely loved wasn't always easy.

Some worked wonderfully but left my hair feeling excessively oily. Others contained ingredients I wasn't comfortable using.

So I started experimenting.

I would make deep-conditioning treatments using ingredients like avocado, banana, honey, and coconut milk. I researched different oils, learned about their properties, and gradually became more intentional about what I put in my hair.

Eventually, my curiosity extended to skincare.

Having experienced acne growing up, I became increasingly interested in understanding what I was applying to my face and body.

I could spend an hour standing in the aisles of a grocery store, reading labels and comparing products.

I wanted to understand what was in them, why those ingredients were there, and whether they were something I wanted to use.

Eventually, I thought, Why don't I just make my own?

So I did.

I began creating facial lotions and body butters, learning through research, experimentation, and plenty of trial and error.

I discovered that applying oils and butters alone didn't always give my skin the moisturized feeling I wanted. That led me to explore formulations that incorporated water alongside botanical oils, butters, and other carefully selected ingredients.

Over time, I brought what I was learning back into my hair care, developing my own leave-in conditioners and treatments.

What began as curiosity grew into years of learning, creating, testing, and refining.

A Symphony of Ingredients

One of the things I've come to appreciate most about formulation is how beautifully ingredients can work together.

I don't believe in adding an ingredient simply because it's popular or sounds impressive.

I want to understand its purpose.

From botanical ingredients like marshmallow root and lavender to thoughtfully selected plant oils and butters, I study how ingredients complement one another to create a cohesive formula.

I often think of it as a symphony.

Each ingredient has a part to play, and when they work together beautifully, the result is something greater than any single ingredient could accomplish alone.

Of course, I care about how a product performs. But I also care about how it feels.

The texture. The fragrance. The way it spreads across the skin or moves through the hair. The experience of using something that has been thoughtfully made.

I want to create products that I genuinely enjoy using and feel confident sharing with the people I love.

Because when I make something for someone, I'm not simply thinking about what they'll purchase.

I'm thinking about the person who will use it.

From My Hands to Yours

For years, I made products primarily for myself, my family, and my friends.

But people started noticing.

I'd receive compliments on my hair or skin, followed by the inevitable question:

"What do you use?"

And I'd smile and say, "I make it!"

I remember a hairstylist who would come to our home to do my aunt's hair. She became interested in my products, and whenever she came over, I'd make sure I had a jar ready for her—or I'd make one while she was there.

She would happily pay me $20 for a jar and encourage me to keep going.

Around the holidays, I'd make body butters to sell to family friends, experimenting with fragrances and continuing to improve my creations.

At the time, I wasn't building a grand business.

I was simply sharing something I loved.

But God was preparing something I couldn't yet see.

How Overflow Naturals Was Born

Years later, I attended the BMW Supplier Diversity Exchange in Greenville, South Carolina, where I met the assistant to the mayor of Greenville.

We initially planned to have lunch, but with our busy schedules, it wasn't until a few months later that we finally had the opportunity to sit down together.

During our conversation, she asked about my interests and the things I enjoyed doing. I mentioned that I made my own hair care and skincare products.

She encouraged me to participate in an upcoming holiday market and offered to help me get involved.

And just like that, I had an opportunity to introduce my creations to a much larger audience.

There was just one thing.

I needed a name.

My original idea was Diadem Naturals, inspired by the beautiful imagery in Isaiah of being a royal diadem in the hand of God.

But when I looked into the name, I discovered it was already being used.

So I began searching again.

I remember asking the Lord, What do You want me to name this?

And then I thought about my birthday.

I was born on the 23rd, so I decided to turn to Psalm 23.

As I read through the passage, I arrived at verse five.

“Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”

And there it was.

Overflow Naturals.

Anointed for Overflow.

What had begun years earlier as a personal journey of learning to appreciate and care for the way God made me now had a name, a purpose, and an opportunity to grow.

A Place Prepared for You

The more I reflect on Psalm 23:5, the more meaningful it becomes.

David describes a table prepared by the Lord in the presence of his enemies.

Not after every challenge has disappeared.

Not after every responsibility has been fulfilled.

Not when life has finally become effortless.

But right there, in the midst of it all.

There is a place of provision, care, and fellowship with God, even in circumstances that might otherwise overwhelm us.

And that understanding has become part of my vision for Overflow Naturals.

I want this brand to feel welcoming.

Like stepping into a beautiful place where thoughtfulness is evident in every detail. Where excellence isn't about impressing someone or demonstrating status, but about genuinely valuing what has been created and the person who receives it.

I love beautiful things. I love elegance, wonderful fragrances, luxurious textures, and experiences that make ordinary moments feel special.

But I don't believe those experiences should be reserved for a select few.

I believe there's beauty in being able to enjoy something well made, something created with intention and care.

And that's the experience I want to share through Overflow Naturals.

Beautifully and Wonderfully Made

If there's one thing I hope you take away from my story, it's this:

You don't have to become someone else to be worthy of love.

You don't have to change your hair texture, your skin tone, or the features God gave you to fit someone else's definition of beauty.

You were created with intention.

And learning to appreciate how God made you doesn't mean neglecting yourself. It means recognizing the value of what you've been given and caring for it well.

Our bodies are gifts entrusted to us by God, and I believe there's something beautiful about honoring Him through the way we care for ourselves.

That's part of what Overflow Naturals means to me.

More than a collection of botanical hair care and skincare products, it's an expression of the care, research, creativity, and love that have shaped my journey.

My hope is that when you encounter Overflow Naturals, you feel known, seen, loved, and welcomed.

That you find something beautiful here.

And that you're reminded that you don't have to earn your place by becoming someone you're not.

God has already created you with intention.

So come as you are.

There is beauty in how He made you, and there is joy in caring for what He's given you.

Welcome to Overflow Naturals.

Anointed for Overflow.

With love and purpose,
